On Monday, local musician, Doug Potter, was leaving Cafe Beignet in New Orleans' French Quarter after playing one his usual sets, when he was severely beaten in what appears to be yet another so-called 'knockout game' attack.
As Potter walked to his car, just off Bourbon Street, he was suddenly punched by two assailants and fell into the street, according to police.
The vicious attack was captured by a security camera.
Potter was transported to University Hospital with severe head trauma, and underwent brain surgery. He is currently in a coma and listed in critical condition.
The victim's brother, David Potter, told WWLTV:
Get these people off the street. I've had it. You live here all your life and you have to deal with something like that."
Nothing was taken from the 54-year-old victim during the assault.
No arrests have been made and police are asking for the public's help in apprehending Potter's attackers.
Police describe one of the suspects as a black male, about 5' 7" tall, with a stocky build. He also has a "W" tattooed between his eyes with a cross above it. They released a sketch of the attacker late Tuesday.
Anyone with information on this case is urged to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
Potter, a bass player is a member of the Steamboat Willie Jazz Band and has been playing at Cafe Beignet for the last ten years.
